Wait, why do you have a blog?

That is a very good question, one that I ask myself sometimes. I never pictured myself to be a blogger, but when I was accepted to go on a trip to Kenya in 2010 I thought it would be a great idea to start a blog all about my preparation process and the trip itself. I was a week away from boarding my plane when I got a call from my grandmother that my mom was in the hospital. My mother has been battling addiction since my father passed away in April of 2004. I was told she was in stable condition and I shouldn't come home from school, but the next day I was woken by a call from my aunt saying that my mom was in critical condition and I needed to get home as soon as possible. The first week that she was in the hospital she was unconscious, a machine was breathing for her and that Friday I was told I she wouldn't make it. With this being said, my flight to Kenya was scheduled to leave in less than a week and my mother was on her death bed. As you can imagine, I decided not to go on the trip in November of 2010 and I chose to stay at home with my mother. It is by the works of God that she is alive today.

After months of my mother going through a rehabilitation process and another semester of school for me, I was able to go to Kenya in May of 2011. Hands down, one of the best experiences of my life. I learned a lot from the trip and the Lord revealed a lot about His plans for my life through the trip (I won't say anything else because you can read all about it). For a while, I stopped writing because my life has been incredibly hectic. School is tough and things with my family haven't been easy. My mother is still battling, she has fought for her life multiple times and is now fighting for sobriety. Amongst all of the chaos, I have still been fighting for what the Lord wants for my life. I have been given an amazing opportunity to spend 7 weeks at a CURE Hospital in Kenya this summer. Here's to another journey overseas and the battles of life at home!
